When I decided to recruit students, I was thinking that how my class was able to be understood to the public.The best way I thought was to make an advertisement. So that night, I made very simple paper advertisement.And next day I visited two super markets, two clinics, and a station near my house and ask them to put it up on the wall.
But there is one more problem about my class....that is,where I can teach?
This is the most serious problem!!
One day my father told me,
"If you think seriously about your job, Japanese class, I'll help you "
"What?"
"My old office has not been used for long time, you know.
So I can put all these stuffs away and refurbish for a Japanese class"
I was really surprised and happy at the same time.
This is a very good chance to me.I'll have my own class.
Actually my father has a very unique character.
He used to be a backpacker and also went for cross-country in his school days.
He was interested in my Japanese class and understood my situation so he was willing to support me.
Few weeks later interior construction had begun and new tables, chairs and white board were set up.
Now everything ready.
At the same time, I reserched about other textbooks, reference books, dictionaries etc every day.
Study never end.
Also I visited my University that I graduated, to meet my professor and get some advices about Japanese class.And I took lectures as a auditor on weekdays.This experience was very useful for me.
I learned linguistics,phonetics and teaching method etc.
His most striking message to me was
"Mrs.Suzuki, you'd better wite your original textbook.Don't stick to manual.And you should understand the needs every time. What they want to know or what they want to study.Because it depends...right?Be flexible."
Now I'm planning to start writing Japanese textbook for beginners.I want to publish a book someday.

生徒を募集しようと思った時、どうやって自分のクラスの事を皆に知ってもらえるか考えました。
一番良いと思ったのは、広告を作る事。私はその日の夜に簡単なチラシを作りました。
そして翌日、二つのスーパーと診療所、そして自宅近くの駅に行って、貼って貰えるようにお願いしました。
でも、もうひとつ重要な問題が・・・それは、どこで教えるのか？
これが一番重要な問題！！
ある日、私の父が言いました、
「もし、日本語教室の事を真剣に考えているなら力を貸すよ。」
「え？」
「前の事務所は長い事、使っていないでしょう。全部片付けて、教室用に改装してあげよう」
ちょっと驚きましたが嬉しかったです。
いい機会だと思いました。自分の教室が持てるなんて。
私の父は面白い人です。
学生時代にバックパッカーしたり、大陸横断したり。
私の仕事の事にも興味を持ってくれて、立場も理解してくれたし、本当に喜んで手を貸してくれたという感じでした。
数週間後に内装工事が始まり、机や椅子、ホワイトボードも設置されました。
全てが整いました。
同時に、毎日研究もしました。本や参考書、辞書などについて。
勉強は終わらない。
母校の大学に行き、教授にアドバイスを求めました。平日は聴講生として講義も受けました。
これはとても役に立ちました。
言語学や音声学、教授法について学びました。
一番印象的だったメッセージは
「鈴木さん、自分で本を書いた方がいいですよ。マニュアルには拘らないで。それから、いつもニーズをよく理解すること。何を知りたいのか、何を勉強したいのか。人によって違うでしょう？柔軟性を持ってください」
私は今、本当に本を書き始めたいなと思っています。いつか出版もしたいと思っています。

about my class
Today I want to write about details how my class was established.
Two years ago,I met one Indian family Mr. and Mrs.Sharma(They are from Dehli)
Actually they sent their daughter to Japanese Christian kindergarten near my house.
And there, my daughter and Indian girl was in the same class.
One day at parents meeteing day in the kindergarten, our class teacher seriously asked us,
'Is there anybody who can speak English and help for us a little bit? '
You know that Japanese people don't speak English normally even though we've studied.
So they were in big trouble about communications with Indian mother.
But all Japanese mother were facing down and nobody answered to that question.
So I said "Yes, I'll do."
From that day I became a volunteer's interpreter of her.
It was really good chance and experience for me to know Indian culture and culture diffrence cause my major at university was inter-cultural communication.So I was really interested in talking with her.
Few month passed ,and one day Mrs Sharma told me
"Could you be my Japanese teacher?"
suddenly I answered "Sorry I'll say no.I'm not professional.It's impossible for me...."
then she said "Yes,you can be....I know that"
I wanted to have time to think about it.
Because we can't be a teacher just because we are native Japanese.
If I teach Japanese ,I should study how to teach and also systematic method about Japanese language.
Next day I change my mind.
I decided to be a teacher.
From that day my life totally changed.
Cause my teacher level was zero.......I did't know anything about Japanese teaching.
Everyday I studied until midnight.
I bought many books about teaching method also I went to library almost everyday.
It was really tough at first .....but everything I studied were very fresh and new to me.
I could be able to enjoy studying.
First lesson for us was held in my house.
Nothing there....no white board no.Only we had was pencils and the textbook she brought "Minnano Nihongo Ⅰ"
Then I reallized that this textbook is common for people who study Japanese.
While studying Japanese, I hit one idea to recruite students.
I thought that it would improve my skill as a teacher.

今日は、私が教室を設立した経緯について書こうと思います。
２年前、私はシャルマさんというインド人の家族に出会いました。
お子さんは、自宅近所のクリスチャンの幼稚園に通わせていらっしゃいました。
そこで、お嬢さんが私の娘と同じクラスだったのです。
ある日、保護者会で先生が真剣な表情で私たちに聞きました。
「どなたか、英語を話せる方はいらっしゃいませんか？ちょっとお手伝いをしたいただきたいのです」と。
私たち日本人は英語を使わないので、先生方は、このインド人のお母さんとのコミニケーションに苦戦していらっしゃいました。
でもお母様方は皆、下を向いて誰も返事をしませんでした。
そこで私は「はい、私でよければ、やります」と名乗りでました。
その日から、私は彼女のボランティアの通訳になりました。
学生時代に国際文化を専攻していたので、これはとてもいい機会になると思ったのです。
数か月が経って、ある日彼女が私に言いました
「ねぇ、私の日本語の先生になってくれない？」
私はとっさに「ごめん、なれない・・・プロじゃないし・・・無理だよ」と言いました。
しかし彼女は「いや、大丈夫、出来ると思う」と言いました。
私は考える時間が必要だと思いました。
というのも、日本語の母語話者だからと言って、日本語を教えられるわけではありません。
日本語の体系的な教え方を学ぶ必要があります。
しかし、翌日私の気持ちは変わりました。
日本語教師になろうと決意しました。
その日から、私の生活はガラっと変わりました。
何しろ、教師としてのレベルはゼロ。教え方が分かりません。
毎日、深夜まで勉強して、教授法に関する本もたくさん買い、図書館にはほぼ毎日通いました。
最初は大変でしたが、だんだん楽しくなってきました。
全てが新鮮で新しかったのです。
最初のレッスンは私の自宅でした。
ホワイトボードも何もありません。
あるのは、鉛筆と、彼女が持ってきた「みんなの日本語Ⅰ」という教科書だけです。
ここで初めて、外国人向けのメジャーな本がみんなの日本語である事を知りました。
そして勉強していくうちに、私は生徒を募集することを思いつきました。
生徒を募集すれば、自分の実力も向上できると思ったのです。
